When a formulation requires the addition of tack, Soltex has a broad range of useful chemical formulation approaches to solve the problem.

Products and applications of products used as tackifiers are:

  • Polyisobutylenes in cling film production
    • They function as a tackifier when added to the resin used in producing the film
    • Industrial uses of cling film include pallet over wrap and silage wrap
  • High viscosity grades of polybutene impart superior tack. Polybutene adds tackiness to active pesticide/insecticide ingredients adding to their effectiveness
  • Vital to the formulation of tack in pressure-sensitive and hot-melt adhesives
  • Formulated cable compounds with tack add integrity to structural wire/cable components while providing water blockage functionality
  • Thermoplastic elastomers which exhibit negligible inherent tack are improved when formulated with polybutene. Increased tack has been demonstrated when polybutene is used in styrene-butadiene-styrene block copolymers, natural rubber, and synthetic rubber

Bright Stock Replacement
BSR 30 is a polymeric based viscosity modifier developed for use in a wide range of high viscosity, industrial lubricants and as an alternative to 150 bright stock. The fact that 150 bright stock is not produced by the current processes that produce Group II and Group III base oils leads to concerns about its future availability    TDS | SDS
Detergents are additives designed to clean metal surfaces within an engine and prevent the build-up of deposits. The insoluble by-products of the combustion process are removed by the detergents in the lubricant. Soltex offers both overbased and neutral sulfonates to meet your needs.

Dispersants help to prevent sludge, varnish and other deposits from forming on critical metal surfaces. They are used in automotive applications and also serve as an emulsifier in some industrial applications. Soltex’s PIBSI is made with a unique chlorine free process to provide superior dispersancy.

Pour Point Dispersants
The pour point of a fuel or oil is the lowest temperature at which it will pour when cooled under defined conditions. In general, the pour point is indicative of the amount of wax in an oil. Pour point dispersants are used in most lubricant types, including crankcase engine oils, automatic and power transmission fluids, automotive gear oils, tractor fluids, hydraulic fluids, and circulating oils.

Tackifiers increase the adhesive properties of a lubricant, preventing dripping and splashing during operation which helps to reduce operational cost and the risk of environmental contamination. Soltex’s tackifiers are a combination of high molecular weight polymers in selected mineral oils. By contributing significantly to lubricant retention, film thickness and surface adhesion, these additives help ensure hydrodynamic lubrication over a wide range of conditions and add an element of corrosion protection.

Viscosity Modifiers
Viscosity index improvers are polymeric and are added to lubricants to reduce the degree of change in viscosity seen at high and low temperatures. Mineral oil lubricants become less effective at high temperatures because heat reduces their viscosity and film-forming ability. The traditional solution to this problem was to make seasonal oil changes in some applications. With the advent of viscosity improvers, that’s no longer necessary or desirable.
