Soltex synthetic base stocks are used in a variety of transportation vehicle lubricant applications.

Base stocks include polybutenes, polyalphaolefins (PAO) and various base oils (Group I, II and III):

  • Polybutenes are used both as component lubricants and derivative applications including polybutenylamines and polyisobutylsuccinimides compounds
  • Polybutenes have excellent thickening ability. Polybutenes and PAO’s have excellent shear stability while forming very low or no deposits allowing for clean combustion (no smoke)
  • Gear oils which need thickening and tackiness properties to keep the lubricant on the gear benefit from formulating with polybutene
  • Motor oils with improved lubricity and engine life are formulated from PAO and polybutene. Performance boosters made from calcium sulfonate chemistry reduce acidity buildup in diesel engines to significantly increase time between oil changes
  • Two-stroke engines with polybutene are integral to passing the Japanese JASO standards for global performance for low/no smoke during combustion. This includes motorcycles, snowmobiles, scooters, agricultural equipment, chainsaws, air-blowers and snow-blowers

Bright Stock Replacement
BSR 30 is a polymeric based viscosity modifier developed for use in a wide range of high viscosity, industrial lubricants and as an alternative to 150 bright stock. Detergents are additives designed to clean metal surfaces within an engine and prevent the build-up of deposits. The insoluble by-products of the combustion process are removed by the detergents in the lubricant. Soltex offers both overbased and neutral sulfonates to meet your needs.

Pour Point Dispersants
The pour point of a fuel or oil is the lowest temperature at which it will pour when cooled under defined conditions. In general, the pour point is indicative of the amount of wax in an oil. Pour point dispersants are used in most lubricant types, including crankcase engine oils, automatic and power transmission fluids, automotive gear oils, tractor fluids, hydraulic fluids, and circulating oils.

Tackifiers increase the adhesive properties of a lubricant, preventing dripping and splashing during operation which helps to reduce operational cost and the risk of environmental contamination. Soltex’s tackifiers are a combination of high molecular weight polymers in selected mineral oils. By contributing significantly to lubricant retention, film thickness and surface adhesion, these additives help ensure hydrodynamic lubrication over a wide range of conditions and add an element of corrosion protection.

Viscosity Modifiers
Viscosity index improvers are polymeric and are added to lubricants to reduce the degree of change in viscosity seen at high and low temperatures. Mineral oil lubricants become less effective at high temperatures because heat reduces their viscosity and film-forming ability. The traditional solution to this problem was to make seasonal oil changes in some applications. With the advent of viscosity improvers, that’s no longer necessary or desirable.
