Fumed Silica
FUMED SILICA
Description
Soltex fumed silica is a low-density, high-surface-area powder produced from flame pyrolysis of silicon tetrachloride or quartz sand. Fumed silica consists of microscopic droplets of amorphous silica that fuse into branched, three-dimensional secondary particles which then agglomerate into tertiary particles. Fumed silica increases viscosity and thixotropic behavior when used as a thickener and reinforcing filler. It also imparts rheopexy, anti-settling, anti-blocking, dispersing, fluidity, and anticorrosive properties.
Soltex fumed silica is produced to high standards under ISO9001 Quality Management Systems. Product batches are tested during manufacturing and prior to shipment to ensure high quality standards. Soltex is committed to building stock of fumed silica to support our customers, thereby reducing lead times to better manage inventories. Soltex fumed silica is tested and approved prior to shipping to ensure our material is delivered to specifications.
Application Benefits
Fumed silica is often used as a universal thickening agent in coatings, adhesives, sealants, elastomers, lubricants, greases and more. Fumed silica can also be used as an anticaking agent in powders, a light-diffusing agent in cosmetics, and a light abrasive in products like toothpaste.
