DALLAS – (July 13, 2015) Saving water is becoming more and more important in our growing and changing world. Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) honored Synthetic Oils and Lubricants (Soltex) for inventing a new process that eliminates the use of water and reduces the use of hazardous chemicals in petroleum products.

“Every year companies design and develop innovative green chemistry technologies that will result in safer chemical use in the places where we work and live,” said EPA Regional Administrator Ron Curry. “The process created by Soltex can prevent 50 percent of hazardous waste a year and significantly lower operating cost.”

The Houston based company and five other winners were recognized today at the 20th Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Awards ceremony in Washington D.C.

“Soltex is honored to receive the Presidential Green Chemistry award. This new polybutene technology has the potential to reduce waste and conserve energy, while optimizing operational costs,” said Tony Massoud, Chief Executive Officer of Soltex. “As a midsize company, we are proud to be included among the leaders in our industry who, through innovation and responsible care, have greatly improved our everyday life.”

EPA’s Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge promotes research and development of less-hazardous alternatives to existing technologies that reduce or eliminate waste, particularly hazardous waste, in industrial production. An independent panel of technical experts convened by the American Chemical Society selected the winner’s technologies. Winning technologies are responsible for annually reducing the use or generation of more than 826 million pounds of hazardous chemicals, saving 21 billion gallons of water, and eliminating 7.8 billion pounds of carbon dioxide equivalent releases to air. These benefits are in addition to significant energy and cost savings by the winners and their customers.

Soltex, based in Houston, produces chemical products, as well as provides custom blending sourcing, special packaging and other unique services that increase the value of numerous industrial and consumer applications. For more information, please visit www.soltexinc.com.
