The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recently updated regulations concerning chemical hazards, which will affect how companies, including Soltex Inc., operate. As valuable customers, employees, and partners of Soltex, it is important to understand these changes to ensure our workplace remains safe and compliant with the latest standards.

Key Changes in OSHA Regulations

The new OSHA regulations emphasize several critical areas:

  1. Hazard Communication: Chemical manufacturers and importers must evaluate the hazards of the chemicals they produce or import. This includes providing updated safety data sheets and ensuring that chemicals are properly labeled. For detailed information, you can refer to OSHA’s Hazard Communication page.
  1. Employee Training: Employers are required to train workers on the new hazard classifications and ensure they understand how to read and interpret safety data sheets and chemical labels. This training is crucial for all employees, particularly those handling hazardous chemicals.

This includes engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
  1. Reporting and Recordkeeping: The updated regulations require stricter reporting and recordkeeping practices. This includes maintaining records of employee exposure to hazardous chemicals and any incidents of chemical-related injuries or illnesses.

What Employees Need to Know

As these new regulations come into effect, here are some key points for all Soltex employees:

  1. Stay Informed: Familiarize yourself with the updated safety data sheets and chemical labels. These documents provide crucial information about the hazards associated with the chemicals you may encounter in your work.
  1. Participate in Training: Take advantage of any training sessions offered by Soltex. These sessions will help you understand the new hazard classifications, proper handling procedures, and emergency response protocols.

By understanding and adhering to these new OSHA regulations, we can work together to ensure a safe and compliant workplace at Soltex Inc. For more detailed information on the new regulations, please visit OSHA’s Hazard Communication page.

Staying Safe During Summer Heat at Soltex Inc.

As summer heats up, your safety and well-being in our warehouses and plants are our top priorities. We are committed to helping you stay safe and healthy by taking proactive steps to prevent heat-related illnesses. Here’s how we’re addressing heat safety this summer:

Training on Heat Illness First Aid

Recognizing and responding to heat illness is crucial. We provide training to help you understand the signs and symptoms of conditions like heat exhaustion and heat stroke. This training covers:

  • Identifying symptoms like dizziness, headache, nausea, and excessive sweating.
  • Immediate actions to take if you or a coworker show signs of heat illness.
  • Procedures for contacting emergency medical services if needed.

Proper Water to Electrolyte Ratios

Staying hydrated is essential, but balancing your electrolytes is equally important. Our hydration strategy focuses on:

  • Providing easily accessible water stations throughout our facilities.
  • Encouraging regular water breaks, especially during peak heat hours.
  • Offering electrolyte-replenishing beverages to help you maintain the right balance of salts and minerals.

Adjusted Work Schedules

To minimize your exposure to extreme heat, we’ve adjusted our work schedules to ensure that more physically demanding tasks are completed during the cooler parts of the day. This approach includes:

  • Shifting heavy labor activities to early morning or late afternoon.
  • Implementing rotating breaks to give you ample time to rest and cool down.
  • Monitoring weather conditions daily to adjust schedules as needed.

Utilizing Heat Index Charts and Dehydration Posters

Visual aids are a powerful tool in promoting heat safety awareness. We’ve placed heat index charts, urine color charts, and dehydration posters throughout our facilities to remind you of the importance of staying hydrated and recognizing the early signs of dehydration. These charts and posters will help you:

  • Check the heat index regularly to understand the risk level for heat-related illnesses.
  • Use urine color as an indicator of your hydration status, aiming for light-colored urine.
  • Follow dehydration prevention tips and stay informed about safe practices.

At Soltex Inc., we believe that education and prevention are key to ensuring your safety during the summer months. By providing you with the knowledge and resources you need, we aim to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses and promote a culture of safety and well-being. Stay safe and take care!

Soltex’s Annual ‘Employee Charity of Choice’ Donation: Making a Positive Impact

At Soltex, giving back to the community is valuable. Since 2022, we have initiated an annual tradition during our Christmas party where one lucky employee gets to choose a charity for a $1,000 donation. This year, we are delighted to share the impact of our most recent donations, selected by Rick Jones, who chose to support two incredible charities with $500 each.

Rick’s Choices:

  1. PTSD Foundation of America – Camp Hope

Camp Hope, operated by the PTSD Foundation of America, is a transformative program dedicated to helping veterans and their families cope with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and related challenges. Through specialized services and a supportive community, Camp Hope provides a beacon of hope for those who have bravely served our country.

  1. Semper Fi & America’s Fund

The Semper Fi & America’s Fund is committed to providing immediate financial assistance and lifelong support to combat-wounded, critically ill, and catastrophically injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Their comprehensive programs and services ensure that our heroes receive the care and resources they deserve.

Rick Jones, the worthy recipient of this year’s charity selection, shared his heartfelt reasons for choosing these impactful organizations. His decision to support the PTSD Foundation of America – Camp Hope and Semper Fi & America’s Fund was deeply rooted in personal experiences and a heartfelt commitment to supporting our veterans.

Rick recounted how he learned about Camp Hope through a radio program featuring Michael Berry, which led him to reflect on the challenges faced by veterans post-Vietnam and the lack of support systems available. This reflection inspired him to prevent history from repeating itself by supporting Camp Hope’s mission of providing a second chance and a supportive community.

On the other hand, Rick’s connection to Semper Fi & America’s Fund stems from having two sons serve in the Marine Corps post-9/11. His search for an organization that truly supported Marines led him to the Semper Fi Fund. As an accountant, Rick naturally examined their financial transparency and was impressed by their commitment, with over 95% of donations directly benefiting injured Marines and their families.

Beyond the numbers, Rick’s admiration for Semper Fi & America’s Fund stems from the impactful stories he’s encountered. At a recent reception for donors, he heard a touching account of a soldier whose multiple deployments had strained his marriage to the brink of divorce. However, when the soldier was severely injured in combat, Semper Fi Fund stepped in not only to support his recovery but also to reunite his family during his healing process. Some members of the soldier’s family had to travel from Central America, a testament to the Fund’s commitment to ensuring that families can be near their recovering loved ones. Today, thanks to the support provided by Semper Fi & America’s Fund, that soldier is happily married and living a productive life. This transformative impact, providing hope and support in the face of adversity, resonated deeply with Rick.

Rick’s contributions to the Semper Fi Fund’s impactful work extend over two decades, during which he has actively fundraised and supported their cause, including raising over $30,000 through events like the Marine Corp Marathon in 2007.

Capturing Rick’s motivation to support the PTSD Foundation of America – Camp Hope and the Semper Fi Fund & America’s Fund in his own words, he says, “I hope I never again see our veterans being treated the way they were in the 70’s. Camp Hope and the Semper Fi Fund do a great job of saving the lives of our heroes, and they do it with service to others and love – God’s way! When my name was drawn at the Christmas Party to be the donor, my choice was easy!”

At Soltex, we believe in using our resources to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Through initiatives like our annual charity donation, we continue to support causes that align with our values of compassion, support, and community impact.
